What to take to Bristol, a freshers guide

Updated: Sep 30, 2021

It's my opinion that the most important thing about packing for university is to keep it minimal! Nothing is worse than a hall room full of clutter that you don't end up using. Remember, Bristol is home to several thriving shopping centres - most of what you want you can buy here!

Notwithstanding my minimalist inclination, here are a few things that are a good idea to bring:

Bedroom Essentials

  • Bedding (2 sets)

  • Clothes hangers

  • Photos or trinkets to personalise your room (not too many)

  • Laundry basket and washing powder

  • Adaptors and extension cords (I can't recommend this enough)

  • Hot water bottle and desk fan

  • Device chargers

  • Speakers (invest in good speakers! they will be used all the time)

  • Plants/cacti (in moderation)

Documents

  • Passport

  • Driving licence or another form of ID (you would be amazed by the number of people who forget)

  • Insurance documents (if required)

  • Medical history documents (if required)

  • Debit/credit card

  • Residency card (if required)

Bathroom

  • Toothbrush

  • Toothpaste

  • Shower gel

  • Shampoo and conditioner

  • Hand soap

  • Hairdryer/straighteners

  • Towels

  • Hairbrush

  • Makeup

  • Razors and shaving cream

  • Sanitary products

  • Contacts/lens solution

  • Glasses

  • Bath mat

Studying

Top tip: Bristol gives all students 2TB of OneDrive storage and the MSFT suite! This is so damn useful.

  • Laptop

  • Mouse

  • Monitor (I cannot more strongly recommend buying a monitor, it makes it so much nicer to watch lectures, do large assignments, and watch films with your friends)

  • Calculator

  • Pens

  • Notebook

  • 1 or 2 highlighters... you don't need to highlight everything.
